National semantic infrastructure for traditional Chinese medicine

Abstract: We use a domain ontology to construct a Semantic Web environment to unify and link the legacy databases, which typically have heterogeneous logic structures and physical properties. Users need only to interact with the Semantic Web environment, and perform searching, querying, and navigating around an extensible set of databases without the awareness of the database boundaries. Additional deductive capabilities can then be implemented to increase the usability and re-usability of data.
In the DartGrid project, we focus on three major TCM requirements, including academic virtual organization, personalized healthcare, and drug discovery and safety. Here we present a brief overview of the major applications that we have developed to satisfy the above requirements.
