Abstract:
In this study, the structure of nanocrystalline CaCO3 was analyzed using TEM, SEM, FT-IR and XRD measurements. An unusually narrow v3 band with remarkable blue shift about 40 cm-1 in the infrared spectrum was observed. XRD analysis revealed a somewhat large crystallite strain in the nano-particle CaCO3. The strain was possibly related to the weakened lattice vibration. This suggests a preliminary explanation for the abnormal IR assimilation characteristics of nanocrystalline CaCO3 aforementioned.
